Banchiao to Sanxia
The ride goes along the river from Banchiao to Sanxia. Located 3km south of Yingge, Sanxia is not as well known and lacks the pottery of its more famous neighbor, but unlike Yingge’s, Sanxia’s old street actually has old buildings. The ride along the river is nice. There is a wide strip of parkland between the river and the city. Also, there are far fewer cyclists along here than on the bike trails along the river in Taipei towards Danshui or Xindian.
Length: 38km round-trip
Attractions: Sanxia old street
Access: the ride starts from the Huajiang bridge on the Banchiao side of the river. The ride can be done with a U-bike if you don’t have one of your own. Cross over the Huajiang bridge from Taipei to start the ride. There are now U-bike stands in Banchiao. You can get a bike from Jiangzucui MRT Station and ride to the river from there.
From here, the ride to Sanxia is an easy one, just follow the bike trail along the river. Start off by going north from under the bridge. The trail will quickly turn as it goes along the river that separates Banchiao and Xinzhuang. Just keep following the trail along the river.
Unfortunately, the trail does not go all the way to Sanxia. When you reach the end of the bike trail, continue along the walking path that goes under the road up ahead. This path leads to a small park. Go up to street level and ride along the same road that you just passed under over the bridge across the river. The road has wide shoulder so it is safe to ride along. Turn right when this road ends at a set of traffic lights and larger road. Follow this road into Sanxia until you come to the first set of lights after a traffic circle. There is a 7-11 at this corner too. Cross the street here and ride along the sidewalk on the other side over the bridge across the river. Turn left at the small lane the goes along the river just after the bridge. This lane will lead you to the old street.
After you’ve checked out the old street, make sure to take the time to relax at THE CAN Café and enjoy some live music before heading back. The café is located near the old street on the small lane that goes along the river. You’ll pass by it on your way there.
